Congress is on the verge of giving the Federal Trade Commission sweeping powers making it easier to enact industry-wide rules limiting advertising. This would give the agency increased power over advertising. Contact your Senators and tell them that you oppose this new authority to the FTC.

Networking Your Way to New Business
At the April luncheon we will hear from Hank Blank of Hank Blank Inc. His company provides marketing solutions and business building ideas for small to medium sized companies by tapping into the power of one of the largest networks in Orange County, his own. He believes 75% of all business comes from building a strong referral network.

Although 70-75% of all business and job opportunities come from networking and referrals most people don’t know how to effectively network. Most peoploe think they are networking when they attend events with people they know and talk to old friends. That's not networking, that's socializing. He will outline how to come back from networking events with relationships versus just business cards and how to develop a network of hundreds of contacts in a year.

AAF-Houston’s Scholarship Foundation
This year we received a record number of applications from college students in Texas. Last year we received 22 applications and this year we received 54! We are also giving away a record number of student scholarships - NINE this year versus FIVE the previous year. The quality level in the applications we received is at a all time high.
We will announce the winners around April 15th. It was a close race for our $500 awards. They will be given this year to the three top schools in number of applications submitted: University of Texas, University of Houston and Texas A & M. The grant money will go towards future student conferences. Our goal is to make the AAF-Houston scholarship program one of the best in the country.
