In Memoriam: Macon W. Freeman, April 15, 2013


Macon W. Freeman, Jr., age 88, died April 15, 2013 at his home in Owasso, OK.


Macon was born Jan. l9, l925, at Cross Plains, TX. He received a degree in journalism and a commission in the Navy at UT-Austin in l944. He served on a destroyer escort in the battle of Okinawa and the occupation of Japan.


He met and married his beloved Dee Mickey in l948. The couple moved to Houston in 1953 where he worked at Tenneco Inc. for 31 years, retiring in l986 as executive director of corporate communications. He was a past president and life member of the Houston Advertising Federation.


Macon is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dee; daughter Ina Jo Gibson and husband Dean of Owasso, OK; son Macon III and wife Nancy of Santa Rosa, CA; five grandchildren, Molly, Jesse, Joe, Rebecca and Travis; one great-grandson, Sean.


A private memorial service will be held in Owasso, OK. Contributions may be made to the scholarship fund of the Houston Advertising Federation, or to charity.
