CHARLES HARRY LEWIS, born May 29, 1921 in Marshall, Texas, passed away in Houston, Texas on Friday, November 19, 2010, at the age of eighty-nine. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Luana "Lu" Josephine Kamp (Kamiopili) Lewis, on June 14, 2008. He is survived by his daughters, Luana Kay Lewis of Bronxville, New York and Dr. Carolyn Virginia Lewis of Houston, Texas, along with many other family members and dear friends.
He enlisted early in 1942 and served honorably during World War II in the United States Army Air Corps. He was an executive at the former Aylin Advertising Agency. Later, he and his wife formed and operated their own firm, Lewis & Co.
Charles H. Lewis was President of the American Advertising Federation-Houston in 1966. He received the AAF Silver Medal, the highest award given by the association, in 1997. He was also honored with the Distinguished Service Award, the Honorary Life Membership Award and the Living Legend Award. He was a long-time member of Chapelwood United Methodist Church.
Friends are invited to a visitation with the family at Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road in Houston on Friday evening, November 26th from six o'clock until eight o'clock in the evening.
On Saturday, November 27th, the family will gather for a private burial at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, after which they will join friends and Reverend Scott Endress at two o'clock in the afternoon in the chapel of Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 11140 Greenbay, for a memorial service celebrating Charlie's life. A reception will take place immediately following the service.
