The Tenth District of the American Advertising Federation (AAF) is proud to announce the 2012 Induction Class of the Southwest Advertising Hall of Fame. These individuals have made significant contributions to the advertising profession and their local communities.
AAF Dallas will host an inductee ceremony and luncheon recognizing the incoming class at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, October 15th at the Brookhaven Country Club in Dallas. Reserve tickets at www.aafdallas.org.
Norman Brinker (deceased), Dallas
Norman Brinker started out in the restaurant business by founding the Steak and Ale Restaurant chain in 1966. After selling it to Pillsbury 10 years later, he delved into advertising, eventually developing the groundbreaking ad campaign “Burger Wars” for Burger King. He then purchased and grew Chili’s Grill and Bar. Brinker and his then-wife Nancy co-founded Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the leading non-profit organization in the fight against breast cancer.
Chuck Carlberg, Houston
Chuck Carlburg, the Principal/Brand Creative Director for Richards/Carlberg, has had his work recognized by every major advertising creative competition from Houston to New York. He’s earned National ADDYS, CLIOS, 100+ Gold Medals from AAF–Houston and more. He has also been honored by AAF–Houston with the Silver Medal for outstanding work in advertising and the community.
Bill Fogarty and Rich Klein, Houston
Fogarty and Klein co-own FKM, a top-50 agency that has been open for 32 consecutive years. Their accounts have included Chef Boyardee, Pam, Rotel, Popeye’s, Shiner Beer and more. They have volunteered for the YMCA, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the American Diabetes Association, United Way, March of Dimes and more.
William (Bill) L. Hill (deceased), Dallas
Bill Hill, Chairman of Levenson and Hill, had a long advertising career that started during the “creative revolution” of the 1960’s. His creativity served such clients such as Zales, Radio Shack, Southwest Airlines and more. Levenson and Hill created a holiday tradition of giving to the less fortunate by purchasing desks for Guatemalan schoolchildren, building a playground for a Dallas foster mother of 12 special needs children, sponsoring scholarships and supporting a wide variety of civic and religious organizations.
Tom Kalahar, Dallas
Tom Kalahar, Chairman and CEO of Camelot Strategic Marketing and Media, founded Camelot in 1983 following a distinguished career serving two of America’s most respected companies – Proctor and Gamble and Dr. Pepper/7-Up. Today, Camelot provides marketing and media services to clients such as Southwest Airlines, AT&T, Neiman Marcus, and Guitar Center. Kalahar is involved in charities, including the Juvenile Diabetes foundation, the DREAM Fund and more. He has served on the boards of JDRF, NAACP and the Tom Joyner Foundation.
The Southwest Advertising Hall of Fame, created by the Tenth District of the American Advertising Federation (AAF), honors men and women from the region who have distinguished themselves in the advertising industry. Inductees will be automatically nominated for the National Advertising Hall of Fame as they become eligible.
The Tenth District of the American Advertising Federation represents the affiliate advertising clubs and federations of the AAF in Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas. The AAF is the only national grassroots trade association to encompass all segments of advertising, including advertisers, agencies, corporate marketing departments, broadcast and print media companies, industry suppliers, college chapters and national trade associations engaged in various advertising pursuits.
