On behalf of the Advertising Education Foundation of Houston Board of Directors, you are cordially invited to our first Breakfast With A Leader Series, featuring Rance Crain, on Friday, October 28, beginning at 7:45 am, at the Junior League of Houston.

This event is a fundraiser for AEFH which raises funds primarily to award scholarships to college students who are most likely to seek out careers in marketing communications or a related field, in Houston. Rance promises to be enlightening so you take away some practical ideas to help you during your business day. At the end of his talk, there will be an opportunity to ask him questions.

Mr. Crain graduated from Northwestern University''s Medill School of Journalism, where he served as sports editor of The Daily Northwestern, in 1960. He started his career at Crain as a reporter for Advertising Age in its Washington bureau and later worked in the New York and Chicago offices of that publication.


In 1965 he was named a senior editor of Advertising Age and was appointed the first editor of Business Insurance in 1967. He assumed the position of editorial director of Crain Communications in 1971 and added the title of president in 1973. He also serves as editor-in-chief of several Crain titles, and writes an every-other-week column for Advertising Age.


Mr. Crain founded four of the company''s 30 titles -- Pensions & Investments, Crain''s Chicago Business, Electronic Media (now Television Week) and Crain''s New York Business.


Mr. Crain is a charter member of the Medill School of Journalism''s Hall of Achievement and a recipient of the 1992 Northwestern University Merit Award. He is a former board member of Lee Enterprises, a New York Stock Exchange Newspaper company in Davenport, Iowa.


Mr. Crain splits his time between the New York and Chicago offices of Crain Communications and resides with his wife Merrilee in Windermere, Florida. He has two daughters, Heather and Cindi, and five grandchildren.
