Vollmer Public Relations and Edelman announced Monday that the two public relations firms would merge to create a Houston-based southwest regional office for Edelman that would exceed $9 million in annual revenue.
Richard Edelman, president and chief executive officer of Edelman, was in Houston Monday to make the announcement of the acquisition to Vollmer and Edelman employees.
The deal will combine Vollmer’s offices in Houston, Dallas, Austin and New York with those of Edelman in Dallas and Austin.
Vollmer PR has been in business since 1981, and with 2008 gross billings of $7 million, is the largest Houston-area PR firm. Clients include Sabre Holdings, Air Liquide and Travelocity.
CEO Helen Vollmer will lead the hub as president of Edelman Southwest, which will have a combined 53 PR professionals. Thirty-two of the employees are from Vollmer, she said.
Vollmer expects to remain a separate entity through the end of the year, though the company will consider itself part of Edelman immediately.
